Building big means building to survive an event raid. Core rules I've settled on with the build crew: (1) stone or reinforced foundations on anything you can't afford to lose - wood burns and Fulings bring fire. (2) A moat or raised earth wall stops most ground raids cold. (3) Separate your storage building from your workshop so one bad raid doesn't take both. @HuginnBuilds taught me the earth-wall trick and it's saved three bases since.

The earth wall is the great equalizer - it's free, it's unclimbable, and it turns a base-threatening raid into a spectator event. Great writeup, Lars. Add a roofed entry so Drakes can't strafe you and it's airtight.

Co-signing the separate-storage rule. Lost a workshop AND my mats to one fire raid early on because they shared a roof. Never again. This is the guide I wish I'd had.

Adding: keep a portal inside the moat. Nothing worse than surviving the raid and then dying on the walk back to your own front door.
